Answer to "Has any body used Semi-truck Headlight Refinishing"World Wide Volvo/Chatt. TN, sells a new Volvo headlite assembly for @269.00 each. It even comes with new bulbs. I paid $411.00 for one in Atlanta and was really !@#$%^ when I found out the pricing difference available. BTW, you can take the reflector assembly on the low beam projectors out and clean it. Best to take the whole lite assembly out, for better working angle. If you buy new lights, be sure to scavenge old parts, like the bulb cover plates, gaskets and harness. They do come in handy, especially if you convert to HID lighting.
Answer to "What r the steps for draining coolant & refiling"Be sure to turn heater controls to highest temp, to allow flushing of the heater cores as well. Don't forget the sleeper heater too. While coolant is out, now is a good time to change thermostat too. To hold your fluids, go by a truck garage and get one of those 55 gallon plastic drums that many fluids come in. Cut it down, to a level that will slide under your truck. Being plastic, you can wipe it out and use it for all fluids (oil; coolant; fuel; etc.) Many places will give the drum to you (Smile, take dozen donuts, cold drink, etc.) Not a good idea to let ANY of these fluids loose into the environment. There will always be traces of your fluid in the flush solution. Very bad for wildlife!!! You might consider changing the heater control valve, while the coolant is out of the system. Doesn't cost much and a whole lot easier than having it go at a unplanned time, when coolant is in system and hot!!! Good time to change sleeper heater hoses too. It's amazing how fast a truck can pump ALL the coolant onto...
Answer to "I would like some opinions on a sample from my power divider?"I did drivetrain oil samples when my '06 Volvo hit 1 mil miles. Had iron levels of 694 and 704 ppm in rears. Both made by Meritor. Called them for guidance. They say they get concerned at 1500 ppm and recommend oil change at that time. I do 3-box change every 250K, use synthetic oil and add a little Lucas as well. Remember, it's a small quantity of oil in the boxes, so you can expect higher levels of iron. This is especially the case, due to longer drain intervals. My ISX runs about 17-19 ppm every 15K miles. The 13-speed trans had 40 ppm. Speedco usually runs a special during the year, $275-$325 for a 3-box change. All T/A and Petro shops sell a oil sample kit for $19.75, tax included. Take the sample, fill out form, put it in the container and drop in mailbox. Goes to a Mobil Delvac Accutrac lab in Kansas City. They work the sample and send results back via email, fax or letter in about a week. Each report will have previous reports listed side-by-side, for comparison and trend spotting. VERY...
