2nd Generation truck driver with 5+ years of experience in pulling dry van, reefer, doubles and a flat. About 30 seconds after I got in the seat, I had dreams of being my own boss and driving MY truck and pulling MY trailer. Since that time I have done nothing but research on the how to turn that dream into a goal and how to achieve that goal. My goal is to own my own truck and trailer withing 12 month's, and pulling freight for a carrier that will charge me 10% to use their authority. Save up money during this time and get my own authority within 6 month's.
Syncing Fuel, when I actually start using PG'sHello, I have just purchased the startup kit for Profit Gauges and I have two questions;' 1) When is the best time to...
Answer to "When and where is the next CMC?"It's not the same as the radio show, you can't see slides on the radio... You also can not get the hands on you do from the outside activities. I didn't go except for the last day, just happen to be at that hotel the night before the last day, or the 2nd to the last day anyway. I am sure there is much to be learned at the CMC. Sure, you get pretty much all of it on his radio show but not in 5 days, not as in depth and not hands on. The radio is to reinforce and keep your head in the game. You will be able to put all of your attention into what Kevin and the other speakers are saying, not like the radio where you are usually driving down the road. I look forward to next years CMC
Answer to "Establishing Business Name Before Authority"I am curious how it turned out for the OP... I myself am at this stage and have purchased Kevin's "Stop Holding the Steering Wheel" package and have more work to do but, I am wondering if I should go ahead and open a business checking account now, so I can start putting my start up money in there? For at least the first 6 months I will be leased onto a carrier. I am hearing different answers else where and so, thought I would try here. Will I be taxed, as a sole proprietor, on the money that is in the business account? Thanks,,
Answer to "I want to be an owner operator"I don't just WANT to be an O/O, I WILL be an O/O... If all goes according to plan and Gods will, I will be my own boss in 12 months.. Unless you have customers already set up for you to haul their freight, I would plan on contracting yourself with someone who has their authority already and they have customers. You will still need the money in the bank KH was telling you about but, you won't have to wait the 30/45 days to get paid. Don't just think of the big carriers to contract with, there are some O/O's out there that have just a couple trucks and will charge you from 10% to 30%, depending on what they provide ie; insurance, tags, ifta stickers and fuel filing. I already know two people that have their own authority and will charge me 10% That 10% will be for the use of their authority and loads. I will still get loads off load boards and start saving money to go for my own authority within 6 month's.
