Depreciation may be the most complicated issue when it comes to accounting, there are many different ways to handle depreciation, but the only one that really matters to an owner operator is how it gets handled on the tax return. I've always chosen to leave depreciation out of my monthly accounting since it has nothing to do with the real world and my numbers. Ron's answer is correct as to how to handle it in ProfitGauges. Only large items will be depreciated, Truck, Trailer, APU, Inframe etc. The rest you can deduct out of your monthly expenses.

From your truck overview page, click on "TRUCK ACTIVITY" This brings up the individual fuel ups. 1) click here to show your entire history on one page 2) Click on the individual fuel up and you'll see a drop down list with all of the details, plus 2 buttons, one to delete and one to edit the entry Click on the edit button and it will open the original fuel entry window, don't forget to click save before you exit.

I choose not to put health insurance in with my business expenses, here's why. The IRS can't make up its mind whether this is a business tax deduction or a personal tax deduction, they keep going back and forth, for years it was personal and then they passed temporary regulation that made it business and now we're not sure for 2012, so it's easier to leave it out and deal with it on the tax return at the end of the year.
