tuning the ecm help

looking for answers on tuning my ecm for better performance and fuel economy, haven't found any real help or information for doing this other than take it to a shop and let them plug it in. but what do you tweak to make things better?

The Pittsburgh Power box is probably the safest way to go because you can dial it up or turn it off. When you go tampering with the ECM you can cause yourself more headaches than you want to deal with not to speak of the money it could cost you. There have been many that have posted right here the troubles they started experiencing after "Tuning" their ECM. They all make claims but if you damage your motor none of them will be there to help pick up the pieces. Choose wisely young grasshoppa ''italic text''

yeah i know its risky doing it at these " diesel doctors " or yourself thats why im trying to find a legitimate way to tune it to try to get a little better fuel mileage out of it but sofar not even PP has anything that will just plug in or even work on my motor.

He sounds like a sales rep for pit pow.Ive had bullydog for 2 years havent had any problems setting ecm.i d ok nt move it aroumd a lot have 475 set at 525.wat i like about it if u get a ck engin light u can clear code R it will tell u wat code is .Iam from old school so i need all help i can get.

that is all wet.

I did both, and it is who you deal with.

I flashed the ECM, and this tech guy I use knows his business.

I now have a programmer chip from him, it is a not a dial your HP thingy, but very reliable.

great pulling, mileage improves, (4) hp settings...fine tuning in between each setting.

you can private message me and I will share his info....rather than naming them publicly.

pittsburgh power box or send your ecm to them and they can reprogram which they did to mine.every truck i get will now have pp program

PP box is a timing duration box that controls length and pulse of injectors only, all it does is dump fuel into the cylinders, without any tuning done to the ecm to change engine and maping the pp box can spell a melted down engine in a real hurry, if you want a pp box i strongly suggest you get ecm tuned also. PP claim there are fail safes to turn itself down but i have seen a few melted down engines because of those boxes, when dial is turned up it dumps so much fuel into cylinders that before gauges can read or pp box dials itself down its too late. talk to the pullers that run big Hp or the guys running the Truck Rodeo here in Quebec. some run pp box but all run tuned ecm as it is a more effective way to set upan engine

Update

i went with the Bullydog as they sell you a tuner with 2 settings plus your stock setting, PDI, Diesel spec, PP all can tune ecm's but if a frisky engine tech wipes your ecm your out a lot of $, with Bullydog you simply re-load tune in ecm, and if tech updated ecm and your tune wont re-load its an easy phone call to bullydog for them to make you a new tune for FREE to install on your ecm

Go with bully safest way u can ad 50 hp .set economy power just by changes parameters to the ecm.just plug and play no tools required. Had pitsburg power box on last truck great power but runs a lot hotter have to deal with wiring harness more evolved. Bullydog will giv3 u wat u want in minutes. U can clear codes .run diagnose great tool just my opion.
