I swapped a 15 for a 13 and the only thing different is the length of the drive shaft. 15 speed is longer than a 13 speed. So you'll have to shorten your drive line a few inches.....

is there a 15 speed tranny with a split for the top 5 gears or how does it work? i only drove 15s with low-low, low and high ranges where the splitter worked in the low range, not in high. is it an rto or rtlo?

idk how complicated that might be but why do you need deep reduction? it's beneficial in logging, construction etc but not so much in a highway truck.

Deep reduction in the first 5 gears for heavy haul drive-ability really just a glorified 10 speed......

ok, thanks. better to rebuild his 13 speed then rather than go to a 15 and lose the top split.

by

seller said he thought it split on high side

by

is it rebuilt ot used? you can get an inspected take out 13 or 18 speed cheap since you already have a core. or rebuild yours with microblue parts. all depends on your budget i guess.

the difference in 15speeds is one is a direct and the other is a 15 over.a 15 direct has 5 low gears and the top gears are a 10 speed. an over has 5 low gears and you split the top like a 13speed i have driven 15 direct 15 over 13 speeds.i'll take the 13 speed over the rest.why do you need 15 direct unless you're pulling heavy.a 15 over will be 100mph plus truck.

Update

zachary, you won't be a driver for very long doing this, probably have to drive in 13th to be reasonable, but what will it do for pulling hills.i think there might be a reason why eaton went away from this transmission.better with 13 and if needed 18 speeds

100 plus MPH? That's perfect for dispatchers, not so much for drivers.

eaton final drive ratio chart shows both the rt (direct) and rto (overdrive) transmissions as deep reduction plus 10 regular gears. can't find any with a top 5 split gears. http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_help...

Check your final ratios, many 15s are .86 overdrive. The only one I was ever around went 1.2 million miles with only minor maintainence. 1987 COE IH with 425 ataac cat. With 3 .73 rears and 24.5 low pro rubber it turned 1500 @ 60 mph if I remember right. Nice ride!
