Why does my warranty not cover crank but covers the cam?

I have 2012 Kenworth T660 with an ISX. 247,6xx miles and the camshaft broke. The broken parts took out my crank shaft. Cummins says the cam is covered not the crank. Anyone else hear of this or have any ideas?

Update

Ok so gonna get a complete rebuild of the motor and anything the oil touches inc. ac compressor and turbo. Cummins has agreed to cover 100% of all parts and 95% of all labor not associated with covered parts. They will cover 100% of labor associated with covered parts. Crazy but It could be worse.

so what they're saying is that rebuilding the engine won't be done under warranty or will they rebuild and you have to cover the crank cost yourself?

They are covering the warrantied items, not the non warranty items. I will be battling more in the morning.

i wonder if theyre trying to get away cheap because after the crank breaking you might need a new engine and not just a rebuild.

Ask them to show you the warranty on paper........I would think that if a covered part failed and damaged other parts they would be covered too.....also ask to speak with the Cummins regional rep about this.....

Good idea. I know if it was the other way around they would be trying to get out of it.

Have an attorny draft a letter. That should get some atten from a covered part.tion. You are only asking to be put back whole from the damage causedby covered part.
