EATON 13 speed chatter/excessive noise

I have a 13 speed reman that came in my 2012 fitzgerald glider that picked up a vibration under heavy load mostly on take off on an incline, at 34000 miles.I have 85000 on truck now and it has now started to have chatter/noise and alot of movement in shifter. While under max throttle it is worse, doesn't matter loaded or empty.

It only does it after 100 or so miles into a run usually and then it just gets worse also doesn't shift as smooth and wants to bite each shift even when double clutching. The strange part is after it sits overnight it starts out fine then after an hour or two running it does it all over again. Also after I do PM service it is as smooth as new for sometimes a couple thousand miles!

I would greatly appreciate any help I'm about out of warranty and every shop is afraid of it being a glider.

My RTLO16713A was doing the same exact symptoms and I had worn/broken gears and needed a rebuild.

same trans. after a new clutch and rebuild, ride height was off, they reset the height and the pressure came of the trans. , noise never came back

sounds to me like either it may have the wrong lube in it or most likely the specs on the sliding clutches in the tranny are out, either from wear or not being right from the start and then causing them to get out further quickly, Does the truck have the Tranny cooler installed and free of air flow blockage? if so may think about replacing it, many times they are just set aside and reinstalled after a reman without much being done to them. could also be that something wasnt shimmed correctly causing the teeth to not mesh correctly and as the load/torque increases it puts more or less gap in them and then you have the chatter. without removing the unit and having it opened up and checked out pretty much everything is speculation, on another note I have seen plenty of differential noises and vibration travel right up to the shifter and into the cab causing a misdiagnosis, my advice would be to start looking for a GOOD gear shop and have them ride along while it is making the noise.

First I would call Fitzgerald's and run it by them. I highly doubt they have put the wrong lube or parts in the trans and the trans cooler would not cause this either. Have you checked the clutch adjustment? Should have at least 2" free travel and 1/2" between the throw out bearing and the clutch brake. Checked all the mounting bolts in the bell housing? U-joint at the rear of the tranny? Possible problem with the throw out bearing if it does good after a grease job...look at it good or have a mechanic look at it. Start there.....

I would also add that if the drive line angles are off a little it can transfer vibration and noise up through the transmission. Does it get worse with speed?

Thanks to everyone for the good info. I have had ride height adjusted twice by two different freightliner dealers. One measured from top of teat to the stop on rear axle at 2 7/8 inches the last measured at front axle top of frame to bottom of u bolt at 3 inches. two completely different measurements. With it not having this chatter and vibe all the time only after a little run time I think maybe not the ride height. I also had clutch adjusted to specs with no improvement. Motor mount replaced, all u joints, carrier bearing, etc. all are tight no play. I am at the point I think to have trans pulled and eveyrthing inspected at my cost if they find nothing.Anybody know a good trans. shop in the Allentown PA, Philly area ? My shop in town are good but not certified so if they do find something couldn;t do the warranty work from what I understand. Thanks again to everyone!
