During the first 3 months of becoming an O/O, I used a local Co., which assisted in getting O/O's set up. After reviewing my cost of this service, WOW... I could live off the money I'm paying for dispatching / billing. Not to mention, avoid a call to dispatch only to find out "gone home for the day" or worse yet "weekend".

Kevin refers to the "hard" work.... Here ya go. $35.00 load board board subscription, $30.00 all-in-one printer/scanner, wifi in my truck, and I was ready to do it myself. I had some stumbles with brokers, but soon realized "dedicated" route was the way to go. I found a route out and back that used 2 of my fav. brokers, and built on that relationship. billing is email, payment is direct deposit, and home 3 days 2 nights every week. I'm sure several on here would be willing to help you get started, if you want to try this part of the business on your own. Let me know if you need anything. I could talk for hours on this subject. Might actually be a good show for Kevin to do one hour on a weekend.

Is that the same as a brokerage? I don't know the term "dispatch service".

They act as your dispatcher .... Like a carrier does.

At landstar some new people have a hard time with getting a hang of running off a load board as well as calling agents and booking loads for themselves so their advisor suggests using a "dispatch service". That is a person who...dispatches the owner operator and takes a small percentage as a fee for their service. The dispatch service person is not a landstar employee but someone with access to the inside load board and with a good connection to many agents. I would assume that outside of landstar there are companies who get paid for dispatching owner ops (with own authority) as well.

I've thought about starting my own Dispatch Service for SNI, just never have looked into actually doing so because I didn't think people would actually utilized it.

Interesting to know they have a system like this at Landstar already. Maybe I'll see if the demand is here.

There are more then you think. Many dont advertise or call them dispatch services. It's actually a great idea. Like being a broker between the broker and the driver.
