Issues particular to women in trucking industry

For the most part my experience has been that of professional driver, gender plays no effect. But on one occasion I couldn't get hired on because company had no female trainers for OTR.

Only recently Women in Trucking organization has been formed, are there others?

Truck stops sell mostly men's clothing, etc.

It's a big problem for women. They face toilet problem all the time. Even you may not find a comfortable for a low flush toilet. I have American Standard Titan toilet and I feel comfortable only with this. https://bestflushingtoilet.org/american-.... But, when I go outside for work I try to avoid all other toilet for this reason!

I don't really have an answer, but the trucking industry is predominately a male dominated society. Have you joined Women In Trucking? These women are pioneers in the industry and they are not out to get anyone they just want things a little more fair and more amenities for women on the road. I am not sure how to get more women's clothing in the truck-stops except ask them about it. If you take a pro-active role then you can help things along for yourself and other women in the industry. That is what is going to have to happen in order things to change. Sorry for not having an answer, but good luck and don't give up.

Thanks, please don't apologize, here I was suggesting new feature to find solutions. Since women are minority in this industry we have less

say in decision process, or maybe I should say our say carries less weight. One of the solutions is to see how other industries have

managed the needs of their minority and adopt them to trucking. Your suggestions are good!

Personally I've been a driver since 1989. Then many shippers didn't have bathrooms for women had to have someone stand in front of door. Some truck stops didn't have showers except in men's bath area. Time changes many things. I've always been treated with respect even by mechanics. Personally I never thought about women's clothing in truck stops, most things there are to expensive. The volume they could probably sell would be very cost prohibitive I would think. I regards to the stuff sold at the truck stops the clothing is mostly for large men, I am a guy 5'5" 145 lbs they don't have clothing for me either. Then there are the tools which are of the cheapest quality possible. I think anyone who might treat women in the industry poorly probably treats everyone else equally as poorly.

The most effective thing that could be done to get more amenities for women is to have more women it the industry.
