06 ISX Egr Delete

I have an 06 ISX 450, I want to delete the EGR because I'm tired of spending $1400 to replace the valve or over $2200 everytime the cooler goes. I have talked to PDI and they said for $9200 they do a full delete (remove egr and cooler, replace turbo, intake manifold & exhaust manifold, and reprogram the ECM to a pre-egr state). $9200 seems quite steep for that. My average mpg is 6.8 and with the egr unplugged I get about 7.5 w/CEL. Wondering if I should just reprogram ECM and block the EGR tube where it goes into the intake with steel?

Also, if I had a roadside inspection, what are the chances of me getting caught and or consequences?

Adam,

I have the same engine and am wondering why you would spend $$ on the valve or the delete if you run with it unplugged ? Is it because of your concern with getting caught ?

I had PDI do the ECM only. Turbo works fine by removing Air supply to Air Control valve that feeds turbo actuator, actuator has to be jammed (how my truck came from Canada fleet). Or if no issue with turbo PDI programming is great truck has been in the 9's regularly just did an 8.10 backed up by a 8.12 with a leaking lift pump. I have an adapter for the exhaust manifold if you want to put a Large Borg Warner turbo from a Detroit, no wastegate no variable Geometry. PDI is pricey but they are quality! Part of that $9,200 is a $1,200 exhaust manifold and probably their $2700 turbo! They only know performance. A buddy of mine has had his back several times trying to stop throwing BLACK SMOKE. Runs awesome but if you aren't careful your fuel mileage suffers.

You can get a beautiful plug from Fulltilt manifolds (they do Pittsburgh Power manifolds) for intake that anyone would have a hard time seeing, they and PDI both do a better ISX intake. Full tilt can also sell you a rear piece of exhaust manifold if you want to remove the EGR Valve from exhaust completely...

Update

Adam recently sold my ISX15 third I've ran.

Thanks for the info! Do you have an ISX15?

How do you jam the actuator. I bought an 06 isx 870 and it’s been deleted but has stock turbo on it and it is slobbering oil.

I removed the EGR, dissemble it, cut the stem of the valve and welded the valve closed. If you enter California they are checking EGRs on a spot basis at the Bug check stations. I have had no problems since I fixed my EGR. In fact my truck actually smokes less now. If you want I can give you a more detailed explanation of what I did. mfrench3691@yahoo.com

I had a reprogram done for $450, by some good guys in georgia, they deleted the egr and vnt , and also the v pod controll and dialed in the turbo to produce best boost possible, I am going to replace my turbo evewntually , but I went from 5 mph@ 65 mph to 7.6 @ 80 mph!

I had them set Hp at a relatively conservative 750 and am putting 628 to the ground on the dyno! there are no more mountains in my path ...just some silly speed bumps called the rockies.

If anyone needs to make this change please contact me @ 906 241 7527 and I'll send you to the right folks.

next I'm unbolting that epa abomonation, from my engine and putting it on E-bay , anyone need a new egr system? it's less than a month old.

Update

I've also shimmed my injectors 1.25 mm and got them all set @ .75 giving me an 8 milsec injector reaction time, now just have to find the right turbo, nothing to big, I still need to get off the highway.

An option would be to talk with the folks who do tune work on the ISX ECM. All that really has to be done is a small code change that keeps the EGR closed. It is ECM controlled. Have the ECM just keep it closed and there will be no codes. No wrench turning and physical delete nonsense, and no CARB or other issues. There is no physical change, and there is no data log on the EGR opening. I should have thought of this route before messing with the EGR on my '06 ISX. I have picked up a few things as I have gone along.
