Aluminum vs translucent...pros/cons for each?

I am working on securing a trailer (53' air ride dry van) and am looking for pro/cons on aluminum vs translucent roof. I am leaning to the translucent since I am targeting a market that would require logistics posts (working in the trailer)and securing un-packaged freight in the trailer. I am also planning to add a liftgate to the trailer.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

You can always add lights to the interior of the trailer to add more light.

With a translucent roof, you do have better light when loading. You also don't have the heat generated with an aluminum roof. However, an aluminum roof is easier to repair should you puncture a hole in it.

All of our trailers (with the exception of climate control trailers) here at United have translucent roofs.

If you are getting an older trailer with a translucent roof, make sure you check for leaks or cracks in the roof! It is harder, imo, to properly fix a translucent roof. I kept repairing mine until I ended up replacing the whole roof.

I don't know about any other pros/cons between them, but when I was running with a major carrier that used them I loved the translucent because it had much more visibility in them.

Most of the time if the load is food or food related (some hazmat as well) shippers require a metal roof. Check with shippers in the market you're looking at.

Depends where your running. I like metal on mine as I have had two of the Translucent ones taken out in HAIL STORMS. slso if heat is a prob you can coat the metal with COOL SEAL. It will help cool it and seal it both.

Fiberglass or composite translucent roofs are way better. It is the best anti-corrosion material, cheap and has as high tensile strength as steel.
