Is this a good combination for fuel mileage?

I am looking at a 2007 Intl 9400 with a C15 Cat, 10spd and 3.08 gears. Is this a good combination for fuel mileage and efficiency? Or was this truck spec'd to run 70+mph. Thanks. Tom.

Thanks for your response. I did get the build sheet for this truck and it is an OD transmission (FRO-16210C) with 3.08 gears. It was ordered for a company that is based in NM and runs the southwest where the speed limit is 70+. I agree that 2007 is too new but I thought it might be a good combo.

It is either geared real fast with a 10spd overdrive or really slow with a 10spd direct drive transmission. I can't even imagine why those 3.08 gears are in there. You might double check that for sure.

The C15 can be efficient if driven properly all the time but a Detroit is more forgiving in this category. I myself would stay away from it but that is just me. I would put a Cat in the category of performance not efficiency.

I am a fan of IH but 2007 is too new for my liking.

well the 10 spd will hurt you in the hills thats a fact.. but if your only running the middle states you'll be okay

you should be able to get 7mpg with that C15 if its tuned properly and you can run it all day long at 1200 rpm. I do in a 379....

your tires should be 22.5LP and if you can try to have WBS put on thats an easy .5mpg gain.....

1350 rpm is the highest cruising speed you want after that your waisting fuel...

BTW if i was to buy that truck i'd swap out the 10DO for a 15DR and 2.64 gears
