I installed a Scan Gauge D on my truck

Yesterday I installed a Scan Gauge D on my 2000 Freightliner FLD120 with Series 60 engine. I got the Scan Gauge D at my local Camping World for $152.99, I also got a suction cup mount for it, $26.99. So far I have only driven 235 miles with it installed, but I like the info it tells you. I am still learning about how to use it. One of the main reasons I got it was because I had a check engine light this week and the Scan Gauge can read and clear engine codes. It showed a code for speed sensor and my cruise control was not working properly, I found a broken wire on the speed sensor and now everything is back to normal and I cleared the code.

Interesting fact I just learned from the scan gauge, at 700 RPM idle, my engine burns .35 gallons per hour, until the A/C compressor kick on then it burns .55 gallons per hour.

Gallon per hour usage increases by .1 at 800 RPM.

I got mine Wednesday and installed it. I love the scan feature with the ability to clear codes. On the digital gauges, I think my boost is reading a little high though.

I noticed that too, when my gauge is reading 30, the Scan Gauge says 70! I wonder why?

Lol! I have no idea? I would think that the reading coming from the boost sensor via the ecm be more accurate, being that it adjusts fuel to the engine?

I have been using the Gallons Per Hour setting to see how much fuel I use per hour. I was amazed when it showed 22 gallons per hour while pulling a hill. I also used it while on rolling hills on cruise control and then compared it to using the foot pedal while on those hills, I can save a lot of fuel by taking it off cruise in the rolling hills.

This device is well worth the investment. Monitoring gallons per hour is a valuble tool!

I also got one at Camping World and LOVE it. It is almost like a new toy at Christmas for a 10 year old.I keep mine on Average MPG, Water Temp, Horse Power and Instant MPG. My boost shows more than double on the Scan Gauge than what my truck gauge shows. Every now and then i just scan through it and love all the info.

Dummy me, I missed this post with 2 other drivers observing doubled boost pressure readings on the Scangauge.

Almost everyone I know claims the boost reading on ScanGauge KR has a much higher reading than the actual boost. However, the ScanGauge is not creating this reading. It is only relaying it from the Engine ECM. There are several situations that cause the Engine ECM to electronically read high levels of boost. On a very average base, atmospheric air pressure (at sea level) that we breathe is about 14.698 psi. Some ECM's add this to the boost calculation to make fuel injection timing and combustion more efficient. The ECM changes this due to different parameters like air temperature, relative humidity, and elevation. Most earlier electronic ECM's do this all by calculation, therefore the boost reading will never be exact.

Some ECM's also are reading boost in In.Hg. (Inches of Mercury) which is about double the exact same reading in psi. Example 30 psi boost pressure equals 60 In. Hg. boost pressure. If that't the way the drivers ECM is set up, that's what ScanGaugeKR will read.

I have put a scan gauge d in my freightliner. I have a detriot engine. It showing me two codes. But the numbers not the same on my detriot sheet. Can anyone tell me how to cross the numbers over so I can tell what the codes is? Thanks

The scan gauge D is not the same as the Scan Gauge KR. The one you bought at Camping World is the one Kevin started with and improved.
