I purchased on 06 Century 13 months ago. It has an Ultra Shift amt with just 2 pedals. I very much like it because i have been driving 25 plus years and I was hurting so muck in my back that I was thinking that I was not going to be able to drive much longer. It has brought me great relief. I belive it is because of the using the left leg on clutch and right hand and shoulder on shifter that cause my problems. (unbalanced muscle development)

It is a little slow taking of especially bobtail, but it is a trade that I will gladly accept. The clutch doesn't last very long as I had to replace mine at about 600.000. The coast was about 350 dollars more than regular.

ok i'm glad but how is the transmission holding up? how many miles do u have on truck now? high mileage trucks (1,000,000+ miles) is what i'm wondering on the ultra shifts

I'm on my second truck with the 10 speed eaton auto shift.

recently I had to rent a truck with a manual and I missed the auto shift. I started out in the late '70's with a 4 X 5 two tranny setup, I would not go back there again.

Unless you are doing heavy haul you can't beat the auto shift and the shifting is so smooth. My 2001 truck had 1.4 million when I traded it and the tranny was very quiet and the oil samples always came back great.

As far as shifting, if your auto shift does not jump gears by itself, do this, if light with trailer and load, double click the manual side on each shift and it will become a 5 or 6 speed.

this won't hurt the drive train unless you are too heavy for a 2 gear spread....I do this all the time when bobtail, trailer and light load up to 70,000. Even at 50 MPH I double click anything over 4th gear. Just learn what your engine and tranny can handle and don't get it in a bind.

If your truck is like mine, you can't hardly pop the clutch especially when rolling, the engine is throttled by the computer to not go into the shift hard...it just slides into gear then the RPM's increase smoothly. Really easy on the gear train.

what kind of freight do you haul @ 250,000lbs. i know drivers who haul 140,000lbs on a regular basis.not heavy haul, just regular freight

Old school , big power , what a croc ! . And you got your info from a international dealer huh , gee I would go to somebody that actually built a truck , the eaton ultra shift is the best thing for trucking since the radial tire , once your grown and quit trying to impress girls with the number of gears you have ,

exactly right. and instead of wasting his money on fuel and dumb ass lot lizards he could be paying off the truck with the increase fuel mileage that the auto shift gives him. shifts perfect going up, going down, and doesn't mess you up having to push the clutch in stop and go t4raffic. maybe he has inadequacies that he is trying to make up for?

That ultra shift slams into gear hard enough that it destroy the rear gears bad enough eaton wouldn't even warranty their own gear set eaton blame it on their transmission would never own another one. If you go route I would most certainly look at Allison I've drove one also they are nice much nicer than a ultra shift

by

those gears are not extra, and get far superior mpg and speed than your bs ultrashift. it's easy to tell your probably not a driver but a shill for eaton fullers autotrans division

Does your auto shift get lost over 250,000# on 12% plus grades ?

The only one I ever saw was useless over 150,000 #. The owner had it taken out after 2 months of trying to get it to work.

Not in the market in the near future, but I have had my interest piqued with the new Allison TC10 automatic. I had the chance to use an Allison in a truck when I lived in Alaska and really liked it. Allison includes braking features in the automatics that compliment the engine braking. Will really hold speed down on a down grade. The TC10 was just introduced a year ago, and it targeted at the OTR general freight market like the auto shifts. Watching some of the videos on it, it seems to be a real challenge to the auto shifts. Allison claims the pricing is comparable to the auto shifts.

I am getting old too. After 4 decades of manual shifting in heavy trucks, I am ready to let the transmission do it for me.
