if you're getting a rattle snake sound from the air dryer purge ....100% governor cost $18. you will need allen wrenches for the plugs replace the new the same way the old one came off.. (if you have the newer style governor it will have flat sides it will cost more)

Most air compressors last about 40000 hours

if you have twin turbo Cat it blows off into the compressor when a turbo starts to fail it will blow the oil into the air system See Cat! don't go to the truck dealer you will get $$$$raped!

if you have oil through out your air system drain tanks remove wet tank plug the higher the better fill with 70/30 mix of simple green and hot water. put plug in and fill system with air... then run your air system

lower air ride up and down fan brakes until its all gone through..

then repeat but with winter washer fluid the alcohol in it will dry system out.....

I do this every summer Cuz a clean air system has less failures

I drive in the north so i replace air dryer filter at the same time.

Remember The compressor is always working the governor signals when to charge system and it fails first.... if its pluged with gunk replace and go to the Engine shop ...

hope this helps

I am having a very similar issue. i have replaced the air pump air line and governor. still i have no air building up. when the truck is running there is a slight sound of a slowly rhythmic purge. but finding the location of the purge is becoming a problem. also when ever you rev to try to build up any pressure it sounds like a hurricane.

Take the line off coming out of compressor start the truck should sound like a train engine. Could be your regulator not compressor.

Air governor could be the problem and is cheap to replace. I would also check your air dryer and see if there is air spewing out the bottom. The purge valve may be stuck open. If the air compressor is bad you shouldn't be able to hold your finger over the outlet fitting....any oil in your air tanks? ''italic text''
