What is the cause of this abnormal tire wear?

We have super singles on the drives... On the rear drives the tires have little chunks out of the tread over the whole tread of the tire. We've maintained tire pressure @ 110psi... We haul 53' refers.

I hope the link works... Picture is much better than words :)

Update

We think we have found out the reason.

The truck has a low-profile fifth wheel. It sets 2" lower than others(measured from pivot point of plate to top of the frame) on some of our older trucks.

There is a couple of loading docks that we deliver and pick up at that have odd angles. When we back in the tires are coming up and hitting the bottom of the trailer.

This explains why it has just started in last month or so, about the time we picked up these new accounts.

Thanks for the reply.

But none of the examples look like what is happening with our tires.

Looks like you've been on a lot of gravel roads.

Looks like you've been spinning the rear tires. Ever see a muscle car try to do a burn out and the tires start to bounce? That makes a very similar wear pattern. The next time you disconnect from a trailer, watch your rear axle to see if the tires are spinning backwards. If they are, you need to allow the air bags to settle before trying to continue across the lot. Or start using the dump valve if you have one.

from the looks of the tire looks like you have been doing a lot of sharp turns in tight places but going a little to fast while backing or turning. I have learned in backing at 90 degree to just idle speed and when turning in tight areas to idle speed the truck and have keep that type of wear off my tires. With duals i destroyed a set and with our xone xda energy super singles I have keep the tear wear down by just idle speed in lots, truck stops and customers. I hope this helps.
