asphalt in right fuel tank, treated 4 times

2000 9200 International Detroit, million miles. Truck sat over a year and I started running it Oct. 2010. Fuel filters needed change approximately 4-5.000 miles. I got the asphattine (sp) from Cummins and ran 4 jugs within 10,000 miles. I still have a 1-2" strip in bottom of right tank only. ( aluminum tanks 120 gallon each)

It's very hard and with just a 1/8 rod was unable to knock, break loose. Also when using Cummins treatment I used up 2-3 filters on the 240 gallon capacity treatment. One filter replaced in between treatments.

Looking for ideas on how to get tanks cleaned out.

Update

Thanks for answers,,, I forgot to mention that I am a LTL company driver. I try and do tje truck as if my own but do draw the line at certain costs. I've gotten a better look inside tank, did knock loose and recovered the thick parts from bottom of tank. Light coat or "staining" is all that is left. Will try some more Cummins treatment unless someone has better idea.

Thanks again!

If its that bad you should just change the tank. You can get a used tank at a junk yard for about $1 the gallon capacity

i have cleaned several tanks (not for asphaltene) with muratic acid available at hardware store or swimming pool supply. BE CAREFULL!!! dont breath the fumes. one or two gallons should do it. remove the tank and pour it in and slosh/roll it around. probably will take about 10 mins. rinse well.

I agree, I would look at replacing the tank completely. Fuel is to precious to mess with. You could be a year trying to clear it out. My last tank I bought was 140gal and we paid $175. DO NOT toss the tank, the same salvage yard might give you $40-70 just for the neck and cap of tank. Then recycle the tank for $10-15.
