Good hiring practices - Company Drivers

Is it recommended to use a contract when hiring OTR drivers, driving company owned trucks and trailers? Seems like there would be protections on both sides and clarifications to avoid misunderstandings, however there seems to be resistance to contracts from drivers. If a contract is recommended, where would be a source for a good employment contract template geared for a company driver who is an employee of the carrier.

Become a Union.

No driver in their right mind will ever sign a contract.

Not after how this industry has royally screwed drivers ever since deregulation.

As we all know... this barrel is full of bad apples on both sides so a contract is a horrible idea as it will lock good drivers to bad carriers and bad drivers to good carriers.

Nothing short of a legal nightmare.

In the past decade, Obama's legacy has flooded the industry with some of the most undesirable, stupid, unsafe drivers the industry has ever seen.

In your last sentence, you explain why legitimate small carriers need some protection and recourse or bad drivers can literally put you out of business.
