Should I open a brokerage or add lease drivers?

We have a small trucking company, thats been in business for about ten years in the Northwest. I have never been a lease or a company driver, I just got my own authority and started trucking. We have plenty of great customers, and have found the need for more trucks to cover our freight. We have a couple lease drivers, and we have also tried hiring employee which we have decided is not for us.

The lease drivers average $2.25 a mile to the truck for loaded miles and $2.05 a mile for all miles. It is flatbed freight with very little tarping, and home most weekends.

I am trying to decide if I should open a brokerage for the extra freight or try to lease on more trucks, and see if maybe anyone out there has any advice on where I can find some reliable trucks.

As I said at the beginnning, I have never leased on to anyone, are these good numbers?? Is this something anyone out there would like to do, and if so, any idea where I can find them.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated...
