How hard is it to replace a transmission I'm cost sensitive.

Ok found out today I have a FRO16210C and my problem it is it's getting harder to get into a gear the truck will even spin and I have to turn truck off and start playing with the shifter start and hope it will go into gear watched light turn green 4 time before able to get moving again. I need a good shop. Kenworth Denver saying 4650.00 for rebuild and 4900.00 in labor at 139per hr .

Pittsburg power saying 7500.00 for a microblue 1475.00 at 94per hr in labor plus some minor things.

I'm saying I get a rebuild on ebay for 500.00 13 speed upgrade and an impact wrench a jack and do it myself

Replace vs repair which could cost 2000.00 easy it has 994500 on it now. How hard can it be it Looks simple I have 07 T600 thanks

You may or may not have to remove some air tanks or exhaust pipes. You need to take the shifting tower out from inside the cab. You might as well put in a new clutch while trans. is out since there is so many hours of labor involved already. If you convert from a 10 speed to a 13 speed you may need a different length drive line. If you're getting a rebuilt 13 speed on eBay for $500 that would be the deal of the century.

That one for 500 sold he's also got. 3.73 gear diff for 500. There's a reman place in WI they have one for 2500.00 Yeah I thought about that clutch too good idea. That will probably be harder to install.

If you have never done this repair before I would make sure you have someone coaching you that knows whats going on. Looks simple but you can screw up more than you can deal with if you don't know what your doing. I would also replace the clutch and you rear main seal while you have the trans out. Good luck.

If u dont have access to a GOOD transmission jack, u will spend roughly 2000 fo one,i would not advise a harbor freight 500 unit

If you shop around a bit you do waaaay better. I picked a rebuilt 13sp for 2750 and had a small shop put it in for 1300 out the door.
