When you are in the month or settlement that you are working on you'll see where it says ADD NEW under a particular category.

After selecting ADD NEW you'll see the fields to do just that.

Right, that would creating a subcategory though. I'm interested in creating a "Category" - on the same level as "Loading" and "Maintenance" under the Expense section.

Which category would you want to add? The categories that we've supplied are ones that the government recognize. Let me know and I'll see what we can do.

Actually, Aaron, the categories you (Profit Gauges) have supplied do not match the government tax forms. If you will look at IRS Schedule C (Form 1040) - "Profit or Loss from Business," under Expenses (Part II), you will see that there are 20 primary categories. None of those are named

Accounting

Communications

Fees

Fuel

Loading

Maintenance (Theirs is Repairs & Maintenance)

Physicals

Scales

Tolls/Parking

At year-end, it is so frustrating and time-consuming to try to mesh the categories set in Profit Gauges with the 20 IRS Categories and Sub-categories, PLUS Line 48, "Other Expenses." Every year, I end up with pages of printouts marked up with dozens of arrows and lines and cross references, just trying to coordinate Profit Gauges with the tax forms.

It would be IMMINENTLY helpful if Profit Gauges would redo its CATEGORIES, to make them exactly match the IRS "Profit or Loss from Business" form.

Wade, you are exactly correct, printing out and struggling to connect the dots is not ideal. Have you seen our tax report? We worked closely with many different tax accountants to create an easy to read tax report. All of the concerns you've brought up are resolved with this report which has been a part of PG since day one. https://letstruck.com/gauges/profit#taxu... :: The only categories that are not straight forward on the forms are UTILITIES and PROFESSIONAL SERVICE. If you hover your mouse over the "?" on those it'll explain what is happening there. It does seem that some of the exact wording is different now. For example our Tax Report says REPAIR rather than Repair & Maintenance however I'm confident that an educated tax accountant will connect those dots very easily. Hopefully this helps you a little. I do know we need to make some minor adjustments and those are in the works already. I'll be sure to add an extra look into the Tax Report. Thanks for the heads up on the new terminology.

How do I add additional categories? I see that I can edit and delete, but I can't find where to add. Thanks!
