Caterpillar C-15 ACERT ECM Tuning Options

Greetings, Let's Truck...

I Have a 2005 C-15 475 ACERT in a Freightliner. I want to do something with the ECM for the purpose of fuel mileage since I haul at over 100,000lbs and currently get 4.79 mpg (90 day Avg.)

I'm swamped with options and wonder if anyone can offer any insight. The PDI, Pittburgh Power Box, and Bully Dog tunes are attractive, but very expensive. What can these offer me over just going to my Cat dealer and turning it up to 550? My dad put the PDI tune, EGR delete and manifold/turbo on his ISX and saw minimal mileage gains, and is not all that happy.

What should I do?

use the power box from PP, you'll love it. It's safe and will help with fuel milage if you respect the power gains select 4 or 5 on the settings. and it will not harm your ECM

4.75 avg you must have the heavy haul program in from Cat already...you should be proud with that avg.

you should gain .25 mpg min. with your driving style.. using that box.

also leave it at 475hp better fuel rate than 550 because you not always pulling grades like running the rocky mountains all the time..

Mine was reset on the Dyno we found the number 505HP. with out the heavy haul program.. and 495 hp with the program installed.

so i'm running @ 495hp and i'm using 300us gal. for every 2050 miles.

i have a 379 with a reefer avg 85,000 gross 95% of the time..

I did the Bullydog. Truck drives like a car now on cruise and does not know it is loaded. No real increase in mileage but it did not go backward any either. All I got out of it is less fatique driving.

The Diesel Doctor in Effingham, Illinois turned mine up to 625 HP, 2050 ft/lbs torq for $350. I am satisfied with the difference and the price.

Douglas Grissom you've been had, a 550 cannot be tuned to 625hp/2050tq, the 625 runs different injectors, cam, and pistons, a 625 tune in a 550 will lose you power as the625 has larger injectors with a smaller pulse. the only thing Diesel dr or i should call him diesel fraud does is play with injector trim codes and such, its still a 550hp/1850tq tune, will definately run betterbut it aint no 625

Sorry to say you are wrong. You can throw every spec my way but my truck was a 475 and my mechanic and I turned it up to the 625hp 2050 torque and played with the fls fts numbers. It’s a pullin ##&&% hands down. I got a couple buddies with older 3406e with the 601hp 2050 torque and on the hills there’s no comparison. They usually hit a speed they can hold and mine just keeps building power and speed going up. It is amazing what this engine is capable of. I also went from 4.5 mpg to 6.5mpg. But once you lay into her hard mpg’s are nothing to record. I never take her over 1500 rpm, and run about 70 on Highway. She gets to speed quick and drives to my likings without going over 1500rpm.

I run the Bullydog tune and like others have said the power is awesome, i run mine on the power tune and i am seeing a 0.3-0.4 mpg increase, i have a w9 pulling a stepdeck, mostly heavy and machinery thats like a parachute in the wind, my last 30 day mpg is at 6.17... not bad for a truck with the aerodynamics of a brick pulling a parachute.

I have the printout. Advertised horsepower 625, torque 2050. My c-15 is NSX series, 15.2 liter. Not the 14.7 liter C-15.

Doesnt matter wether its an mxs or nxs, they are both 15.2 litre engines and you cant run a 625 tune if it doesnt have the necessary hardware. Nxs and mxs are the same. Up to 550 hp unless you order a 625 which had different pistons, turbo, injectors... you dont beleive me call CAT. Print out from who?? Diesel doctor... do some research he's a fraud. He gave you different fls and fts settins and possibly some trim codes. Definately more power but not a 625

I got a sticker on left side of my motor says the same thing advertised horsepower 625.. guess what its not because on top right side of motor is actual tag that says 550. And as a matter of fact the old 14.6 litres could be flashed with a 600 file but not the NXS.

I guess my local CAT shop doesn't know as much as you do about the C-15 because they confirmed it was indeed a 625. They also said, as an authorized service center, they would not have been allowed to have turned it above 550.

I suppose you also think Bully Dog, Pittsburgh Power, & PDI don't do anything but change injector settings either. Power is power. It doesn't matter to the truck if it comes from Bully Dog or Diesel Dr.

Now, I have better things to do with my time than waste it reading and sending messages to some dumb !@#, know-it-all with my laptop. Don't bother responding, I am not interested in your self declared expertise.

I will respond anyways,... A C15 Acert set between 475-550 hp can not be up-rated to 600-625 without a hardware change. Since you are a firm beleiver in the Diesel Dr. do some research about him on the web on other trucking sites. Since you know so much about motors do some research about that as well, I DID!!! I have an MXS C15 550 and wanted to up Rate it to 625 at a CAT shop, could not do it because needed hardware change to do it, only a 600-1850 can be up rated to 625-2050. oh that s right im just a bumb"/$ with a laptop. I never said anything about BD or PDI, they have actual flashes that modify the mapping which CAT will not do because they have to meet emiission standards, . AND WHO F?%&* are you to call me a self pro- claimed expert, YOU SAID YOU WENT TO DIESEL DR. NOW YOUR SAYING YOU WENT TO A CAT SHOP... LIAR!!!

are you ever a jerk. CAT can not do extreme tunes. That does not mean they can not be done.

just to clear away some of the bs if I knew Iwas going to find a cb fight on the computer i woul dhave prepped for it by,"man you ain't gonna beleive this s//t." Ask about fuel mileage performance from a c15 and find you two slinging mud, song the same beat is old.

on cat acerts (mxs, nxs, bxs) i would recommend the VVA delete tune done by: CAT DPF CGI VVA ECM tuning

i've done all my trucks with them, and i just can't tell you how happy i am.

on my mxs, once i loaded the vva delete tune, we unplugged diverter valve solenoid, oil pressure sensor on IVA and backed off VVA's.

power is great, no issues with vvas any longer, and i gained apx. 3/4 of miles.

I have a 2007 379 pre emission nxs and all that hardware changing is a bunch of crapola.

It’s a pullin ##&&% hands down. Never changed one hard part. I got a couple buddies with older 3406e with the 601hp 2050 torque and on the hills there’s no comparison. In fact there’s not a truck in my area that pulls like mine does. I’ve got 75000 miles on so far from when I turned her up and she don’t burn oil and runs like a top with 1,350,000 miles.
