for mpg...the best guage is a boost pressure...manifold pressure guage..easy to install & bulletproof..less boost = better mileage..all engines..all places..all drivers

I agree and the manifold pressure gauge really is an essential gauge if you care about fuel mileage. You can find manifold pressure (boost) and pyrometer (exhaust temp) gauges at http://www.pittsburghpower.com/index.php... Price is $187.94 for both gauges and pyro lead wires.

I disagree about the "the best gauge is a boost gauge" for monitoring MPG, the Scan Gauge D gives you a real time digital readout of GPH burned, if you watch that and try to keep it low, it is better than using a boost gauge. Scan Gauge D is cheaper and give way more info than the set of gauges from PP.

The manifold pressure (boost) gauge is more accurate because it's measuring directly how much power (hence fuel consumption) your engine is producing. The scan gauge is only reading the ECM which isn't a direct reading and does't measure the actual fuel being used. Instead it uses an algorithm based off of sensors to make it's calculation which is a less accurate reading. ECM's are known to be off the mark regarding fuel mileage. Sometimes by more than a mile per gallon.

But the ScangaugeD will show boost and GPH (then you can really compare how they match up) and a couple of other things at the same time. And none of the gauges from PP allow you to clear fault codes and a ton of other things that this one does.

Less boost isn't always better for mpg...but how would one know that without a scangauge? Maybe if they had a pyro. Use all gauges together and adjust driving accordingly.

Camping World sells the Scan Gauge D for $152, very easy to install, just plug it in to the diagnostic port under your dash.
