Engine starting issues - batteries & starter new
2005 Pete 379 w/2004 CAT ACERT engine. Lately I have been having an issue with starting. Starter acts like the batteries are low, slow crank followed by several clicks of the solenoid. Starter was replaced twice, once in February and then last week. Batteries were checked and replaced. Charging system was checked as well. All work performed at Peterbilt in O'Fallon, MO.
It appears if the engine is stopped at a certain point, the engine has a hard time starting. I have to keep turning the key to bump the engine several times until the engine acts like its "free" to start.
There is no consistency to this issue. It will happen after sitting over night or after running for 15-30 minutes between stops. I am starting to monitor the position of the engine by marking the dampener. So far, after 2 no starts, it appears to be at the same location.
Is it possible an ECM issue? Any help is greatly!
Is this a good question?
