In my opinion disconnecting is the best investment. I've been fighting with my 2004 EGR from day one ; EGR is bad; the VPOD mess everything, than the Valve goes bad...3 turbos, cooler...

I took my truck to Pittsburgh power to reprogram my ECM...I've a new truck; my fuel milage this month is 7.6 mpg. Never had over 6.2 e with EGR to don't mention the power. PP have the right solution for your problem.

i have done this but it wasn't cheap. i had ecm reflashed and changed to old style manifold and turbo. all total including labor about 6 grand. i gained 1 mpg. you could save a grand in labor by changing manifold and turbo your self. you can send ecm to pdi in st george utah for the reprogramming. that alone costs over $3000 but they put best setting for fuel even better than 1998-2003 standard. i had jet tube in des moines,ia make a replacement tube for egr cooler so that it isn't as noticable that i removed it. also had my welder at home cut that tube that runs over top of motor off and weld flush that fitting in the intake line. it was a long process but well worth it, power and fuel econ are so much better. i can pull hills faster with less shifting. fan hardly ever comes on even on long grades.

Check out egrtuner.com . It was built for Detroits and there are discussions on the Lets Truck site about the product. Everyone that bought it seems satisfied.

I have a plug in barometric pressure sensor that will "delete" your EGR. Very simple to install w/ warranty. Cheaper then Pittsburg power or any competitor. I can do a reflash if your in the market for more HP & fuel savings thanks
