Compatibile with Detroit 12.7

Is the scan gauge compatible with a 2012 Columbia gliber? On one of the shows the guys from Pittsburgh power mentioned that the Detroit 12.7 has 3 models (DK, MK, PK) and the DK is the most desirable motor. I have a MK is there a issue I should be looking for?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

MK is considered a "basic" engine package. MB and MP are the premium packages from my research. The Scanguage KR should work with any truck with a 6 or 9 pin diagnostic plug (usually located by the drivers door on the lower dash). Atleast I hope so, I'm ordering one next week.

I have been using a scan gauge (the original, not the KR version) on my 2013 glider since day one. Not sure which factory rebuilt 12.7 I have, just that it is 500 hp. It has 544,000 miles on it now, uses about 2-3 qts of oil in 22,500 miles. Oil samples look as good as it has since the second oil change when it got it's first oil sample test. Been running a Schaeffer 10w30 syn blend in it for the last year and as good or better used oil sample reports as with 15w40.

Hoping I can be helpful here Cliff, I heard Bruce Mallinson from Pittsburgh Power talking about this. From the research I did, the MB and MP are "premium engines". The MK Is the basic engine. I had found that part of the code on the engine ID tag on the drivers side of the engine, and it's also printed on the valve cover information sticker. Now I'm just hoping this was the information you were looking for. Anyways, I always find your comments and responses helpful, and I thank you for that.

Also, I had no clue you could run synthetic 10W-30 in these engines.

Read pages 6 thru 9 of the 2016 Detroit lube manual. 10w30 93K218 spec (CJ-4) authorized to use in all Detroit and MB engines including the older legacy engines. Factory fill from Detroit is 10w30 now.

That's too cool. I have a local truck stop that is listed as a Schaeffer dealer. gonna check for what they have available. Thanks Cliff.

I would also take a serious look at the Mobil Delvac Elite 10w30 syn blend. I have seen some very good oil samples from folks using it. Has a good load of moly in it like the Schaeffer does. I think it adds something like $50 to an oil change at a truck lube location, but one might get a better deal on the stuff if they look. I am partial to Schaeffer, but would go with the Elite 10w30 without hesitation.

Cliff is the man, good advice and info from him ALWAYS. I also purchased a Columbia glider and yes scan gauge is compatible. With your ecm port being located on the rear of the drivers door you may need to extend the length of the cable that comes with the scan gauge depending on where you wish to mount it. A cat5e cable and connector will do the job. I Had to go to Best Buy for the connector, Not many stores carry them but they are available everywhere online if you want to go that route. Yes the MK is the "generic" version of the Series 60, but still a decent engine. The MK is the 430HP version and the MP and MB are the 500HP version. There re differences in various parts, but overall, you will do fine with the MK. Extra power would be nice with the 264 gears matched up with the 10 speed, but you'll definitely still be a couple steps ahead of most Volvo's out there when it comes to getting up to speed. Good luck.
